Thanks all, will have another version ready in an hour or so… lots more error handling included… watch this space.
nick257KeymasterHi,
We’re having lots of random problems with the spreadsheet unfortunately, even for those on Windows 10.
It’s working for most people (I can see them connecting to our web servers to get tips) – but we’re not sure why others are having problems yet.
So, in version 1.47 of the spreadsheet we’ve added better diagnostic logging. Hopefully you’ve got the spreadsheet loaded.. If you click “Simulate betting”, the spreadsheet will generate a diagnostic log file, called “Place_Bets_PSM_Ltd_v1.47.log”. Can you copy paste that into this post please?
Cheers
Nicknick257KeymasterThanks Brendan.
The odds in the betting log are from Gruss Betting Assist, i.e. from the Exchange, at the time you receive the tip.
The odds in the betting log (on the website) are recorded by us approx 60 seconds before each race. They will rarely be the same, but should be in the ballpark, so to speak. We capture the aggregate odds via OddsChecker at start time -60 seconds.
SBC have done a write up on our approach to odds, which is worth a read. We generally slightly under estimate the prices (on purpose, we don’t want to over sell our profit/loss numbers).
nick257KeymasterPlease see the new instructions at the download page.
I think we’ve found the cause the continuing problems a few members are experiencing.
Before you can use the spreadsheet, it has to be “extracted” from the ZIP file. Some of you won’t have a clue what this means! 🙂 So, we’ve created an alternate version of the ZIP file which is a bit easier to deal with.
nick257KeymasterHI Craig,
Whenever you have time.. can you post back the contents of the file “Place_Bets_PSM_Ltd_v1.47.log” (it’s in the same folder as the spreadsheet).
The new version, v1.47, includes some extra diagnostic information.
Cheers
Nicknick257KeymasterHi Craig,
We’ve tested the spreadsheet on Windows 7 Pro, with Excel 2016 (pretty close to what you’re using).
Can you please try the latest version? v1.47 is now available for download
Cheers
Nick.nick257KeymasterHi Brendan,
I think this issue might be caused by the way you’re using Betting Assistant (it’s not easy to understand!).
Basically, before you close Excel, you have to “disconnect” Gruss from Excel (under the “Excel” menu). Otherwise, when you close the spreadsheet, it’s actually still open, behind the scenes! I appreciate this is a bit hard to follow…
If you’re not sure what I mean, try closing Betting Assistant completely first, then close Excel. You should then be able to delete the old version, and apply the new version.
We also released another update tonight, v1.47 is now available for download.
Cheers
Nicknick257KeymasterBrendan – a new version (v1.47) has been released tonight – can you try it please?
Hoping it will fix your issue.

Nicknick257KeymasterAndy – a new version (v1.47) has been released tonight – can you try it please?
Hoping it will fix your issue.

Nicknick257KeymasterHi Andrew,
We don’t force immediate updates, but we do ask that you update within 7 days of a the release of a new version.
We operate the 7 day policy, because we want you to have the option of being able to leave the system running unattended, for several days at a time, but we have to set a limit, otherwise, if serious bugs arise, it could be financially detrimental.
A VPS is a great idea, several people have suggested this. Once I know of is “Simply Cloud” (Tagadab). there many be cheaper options…
nick257KeymasterHi Dan,
You can check the P/L on our charts, or betting log (the next morning).
Profit-loss-verified Chart
Betting log verifiedThe simulation mode is really just there to help you see the system working. Intend to add a near- real time P/L chart on the website in the near future (with a 20 minute delay on results), it’s been on the list of things to do for a while!
Cheers
Nicknick257KeymasterCraig,
I don’t think it’s anything you’ve done..
I’m building a PC with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit this AM. Can you just confirm what version of MS Office you’re running too?
If you could confirm please, will hopefully have a working version for you tonight, or tomorrow AM,
Cheers
Nicknick257KeymasterHi Dan,
Thanks for this.
It sounds as though it’s working. I presume you were using “Simulation mode”? If so, it will only retrieve tips, log them to the file you’ve copied above, but not put them into the “Market” sheet.
Only when you click “Start Betting” will you see tips being converted to Bets in the “Market” sheet

nick257KeymasterHi Craig,
So close! Thanks for the feedback. Can you copy paste the diagnostic log contents here please? the file is called “Place_Bets_PSM_Ltd_v1.46.log”.
Will try and get this sorted later this afternoon. Will be building a windows 7 machine here, to test with.
Cheers
Nicknick257KeymasterHi Guys,
We’re having some difficulties getting the system to work with old versions of Windows (before Windows 10).
There is a new version of the spreadsheet, here, but feedback suggest this might not have fixed the issues properly yet.
We’re working on it, hope to have more news later today (Friday 19th)
Cheers
